Gem Show X Food Truck Round-Up

So its the time of the year again when everyone from all over the country or even the world comes to Tucson for the gem show!

I know that this is more than a rock show...but I found some interesting stuff! Other than the crystals and gems, there are fossil displays too.

This band made my day - playing tracks from the 80's. Thus, the name. DUH. LOL.

So, the main reason I was here was this - FOOD TRUCK ROUND-UP: Gem Show Edition. Over 15 trucks showed up and it was foodtruckgasm.

First off, not really a fan of pulled pork sandwiches, ribs or beef. I can try it once in a while but its not really a staple for me. This is Smokin' Hot Barbeque.

The Pulled Pork Burrito (Sandwich)

The sandwhich bread has not been delivered yet according to the chef, we opted to go for tortilla instead. What I like about it is that the pork was very tender. If it's ribs, it would just fall of the bones - if you know what I mean. Taste-wise, I found it very one note. I don't know but for some reason it lacked that barbeque goodness. More barbeque sauce please? For $8, it was a miss for me unfortunately. Or maybe it's just me.

I have been following this truck in a while and finally got to try it!

I'm really not sure if they're local purveyors but that'll be nice if they are - supporting local businesses.

The Goat Cheese + Arugula + Apple Pressed Sandwich

The freshness of the arugula and apples cut the heaviness of the goat cheese. It was a good sandwich overall. For $6, it was worth it.

The Chocolate Mint Ice Cream

For $3, you can get a big scoop of ice cream in a single serve cup. Quality wise, flavor was smooth and clean. I have to try other flavors though to see what sets this ice cream truck apart from other commercial ice cream.

I read somewhere that there's this bicycle that sells homemade popsicle ice cream. I checked out his facebook page and the flavors are just interesting!  I have to catch this Cyclopsicle around the city!

The Bourbon Orange Pecan Pie

All of you know that I'm a self-confessed dessert lover, this is one of the highlights of my night! If it weren't for my gout, I would've bought the entire pie and devoured it. LOL. This pie is just worth every gout pain - that's how good it was! I spoke to the owner - he does it part time and have won blue ribbons for his pie.

It was a nice day out! The Food truck round-up experience is just a good one overall.

OPA! Greek Cuisine and Fun

I'm a big fan of Mediterranean food. Plus, I have been wanting to try this restaurant. After the little trip to the Zoo, I went to try it at last!

It was lunch time so the place was packed by employees working around the area. Upon gazing over the menu, I was very happy to see that they offer lunch specials. Typically, you get the most value for your money if a restaurant offers lunch special. They basically try to mix and match menu items into a combo.... so good deal!

Anyone who knows me would honestly say that I love dips. For me, hummus is one of the "cleanest and healthiest" dips out there - basically ground chick peas with herbs and olive oil. For our orektiko (appetizer in Greek), a platter of pita bread with hummus and sort of like a bleu cheese dip with herbs was served.

From their lunch special, I got the beef and lamb in pita bread with tomatoes and lettuce. One of the things I like about this sandwich is its very fresh, not too salty and the meat is very tender. Very refreshing to the palate.
Whenever I go to restaurants, chicken dishes are the safest bet for me. Not this one. Although I like spice and herbs were used, something is just missing - mouth feel wise. This is Spicy chicken in pita bread with tomatoes and lettuce.
